Big Bad VooDoo Daddy got started in 1989. Since 1994, the group has toured virtually nonstop, performing more than 1,200 concerts on stages around the world. Their style of blues, swing and jazz appeals to all age groups, and their music has been heard at some of the biggest and best jazz and blues festivals in the world.
As a testament to their class and versatility, Big Bad VooDoo Daddy has performed at major entertainment events including the Grammy Awards, Billboard Awards, the premieres for "The Godfather," "Titanic," and "As Good As It Gets," the 100th episode party for the "West Wing" and the halftime show at the 1999 Super Bowl and Orange Bowl. They have also played at private events for President Bush (both Sr. and Jr.) and President Clinton.
Music legend Kenny Rogers will do two 8 p.m. shows at the Flamingo Outdoor Amphitheater on Sept. 23 and 24. Tickets range from $25 to $40, call 800-435-8469.
In June, Rogers celebrated his 51st Top 20 hit single with "I Can't Unlove You," which was his first Top 20 hit in seven years. This was his first single from his first studio album in three years, "Water & Bridges."
For Rogers, who has already earned 20 platinum album certifications, scored 22 No. 1 hits and sold 105 million albums worldwide, the new "Water & Bridges" album proves that an American music icon can still surprise people and challenge himself. Rogers is the only artist to chart a record in each of the last six decades. He has three Grammy Awards, five Country Music Association Awards, 18 American Music Awards, eight Academy of Country Music Awards and 11 People's Choice Awards. He's also ranked No. 8 on the R.I.A.A.'s list of Top Selling Male Artists of all time.
Harrah's convenience store recently opened its deli counter offering freshly prepared sandwiches made to order. The deli features Cobblestone Marketr premium quality deli meats and cheeses and sandwiches may be prepared on either six or nine inch long rolls. Prices start at $3.99 plus tax. The convenience store, which is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., offers other mini-market services such as pre-packaged food and beverage, newspapers and other sundry products as well as a gas station.
The Margarita Fiesta, which is a Boys and Girls Clubs fundraiser, will be held in the River Palms' Banquet Room on the resort's Riverwalk level on Friday, Sept. 8, at 5:30 p.m. Various casinos and local restaurants will set up themed booths where they will try to create a margarita that is deemed the "Best on the River" in four categories: "Best Blended Margarita," "Best Rocks Margarita," "People's Choice," and "Best Booth."
Attendees will be able to taste the margaritas and participate in the annual "10K Giveaway," which is a $10,000 raffle prize. Drawing tickets are $100 each and good for a one in 250-chance to win.
