By their late teens, both Daryl Hall and John Oates had bands - the Temptones, Hall's band, focused on vocal harmonies while Oates' band, the Masters, produced pure soul music. In 1967, the duo met briefly while attending the legendary Battle of the Bands held at Philadelphia's Adelphia Ballroom and by the early 70s, they began making music history.

Hall & Oates earned their first platinum album with "Bigger Than The Both Of Us," which gave them their first number one hit, "Rich Girl." The musical magic of Hall & Oates continued through a series of albums. In 1980, Hall & Oates released "Voices," an album they produced on their own. The following year, all eyes and ears were on the album release "Private Eyes."

The mid-80s saw the duo heading in separate directions pursuing solo projects. In 1988, they circled back to produce "Ooh Yeah!" and "Change of Season" on Arista Records. In 2002, Hall & Oates appeared on VH1's "Behind The Music" and soon after released "VH1 Behind The Music-Greatest Hits." The pair followed with 2003 release, "Do It For Love," and "Our Kind of Soul" in 2004.

The Riverside Resort has scheduled a tribute to one of country music's greatest super groups, The Highwaymen, Aug. 15-20. The Highwaymen: A Musical Tribute offers an earnest rendition of the friendship and camaraderie that existed between original Highwaymen Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash. Tickets are $25 for the 8 p.m. shows.

Combining their unique approaches to life and music, the original Highwaymen performed hits to sold-out audiences around the world. The tribute recreates the spirit that made the band such a success when it formed in 1985.

The Colorado Belle Poker Room has paid out $430,869 in bad beat jackpots so far this year and is on the fast track to beat its own record for the most money paid out in bad beat jackpots in Laughlin. The current record, also held by the Colorado Belle, is $503,368 paid out in 2005.

Bad Beat Poker can have a real twist of fate like last month when four aces beat four jacks in a Texas Hold 'em game and the winner lost $10,000 by winning the hand. The Texas Hold 'em bad beat jackpot was $51,229; however, a bad beat jackpot pays 40 percent of the total jackpot to the loser of the hand and 20 percent to the hand's winner. Veteran comedian, Vinnie Favorito will extend his grasp of the Nevada comedy circuit during a 10-week limited engagement of "The Vinnie Favorito Comedy Show" at Harrah's. Performances will run every Sunday beginning June 25 through Aug. 27 at both 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. in the 258-seat Fiesta Showroom. Tickets start at $12.95 plus fees, call 702-298-8510.

Favorito will continue to keep Las Vegas audiences laughing with his regularly scheduled shows, Tuesday through Saturday, at O'Shea's Casino on the Strip. He headlines two shows at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. in the 150-seat O'Shea's Theatre.

Playing on the world's current events, Favorito has stand-up comedy down to a tee. No matter where one is sitting, Favorito will find you, proving that no two shows are alike as he endlessly riffs with the audience, making them all part of his hilarious act.

Favorito's diverse appeal has earned him silver screen exposure on various Comedy Central shows, "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn" and the "Best Damn Sports Show Period." He is also known throughout Hollywood as one of the country's top "roasters" for celebrities including Tom Arnold, Jerry Springer and Larry King.

Making his way to the Las Vegas circuit in 1990, Favorito is best known there for his performances at The Improv comedy club at Harrah's. In Boston, he has served as host of "Boston Chronicle," a magazine television show, and guest radio host on Boston's EAGLE 93.7 FM. Other honors include Favorito's 1998 victory as winner of the renowned San Francisco International Comedy Competition, and being the first-ever headliner at Binion's Gambling Hall, formerly known as Binion's Horseshoe.

Loeb, a Dallas native, wrote her first original songs with lyrics while still in her early teens. After graduating from Brown University, Loeb moved to New York City and played the club circuit to sell-out crowds all over downtown, backed by her group Nine Stories.

In 1993, Loeb met Ben Stiller, who in turn included her hit single "Stay" on his hit film "Reality Bites" soundtrack. "Stay (I Missed You)" was certified gold and earned Loeb a Grammy Nomination for Best Pop Performance by a duo or group and a record deal with Geffen.

Last January, Loeb starred in a new unscripted series "#1 Single" on E! Entertainment Television where they followed her on her quest to find love. Newly single, Loeb moved back to New York, where she dipped her toes into the dating pool for the first time since college as the show captured each step in the process.

"Superstars Live In Concert" opened earlier this month in a new venue the River Sands Theatre at the River Palms on the 3rd Floor, Entry Level. The current tribute cast is portraying Rod Stewart, Reba McEntire, the Blues Brothers, Garth Brooks, Madonna and Neil Diamond. Tickets are $24.95 and $19 with a Players Club card, call 702-298-2193.

The show's producer Barrie Cunningham is a singer and guitarist who has been portraying Neil Diamond for so long that he has become a Cubic Zirconia in the Diamond mine. Cunningham began performing in coffee houses singing folk music when he was 15. He later made his mark in Southern California with the popular rock-a-billy group Black Slacks. In addition to Diamond, Cunningham also does tributes to Jimmy Buffett and Neil Young.
