Beginning as a five-man band, the Pirates signed to Capitol Records in 1989, the same year Garth Brooks made his debut on the label. As musicians with deep country roots, they scored their first hit with an electrifying version of Hank Williams' "Honky Tonk Blues." Over the next few years, they populated the charts with hit tunes and made their signature song in 1991 with "Feed Jake." Ostensibly about a dog, the sometimes-cryptic song ultimately became a plea for tolerance. Even more surprising was its accompanying music video. The Pirates didn't even appear in it, relying instead on actors to convey the story.

The Colorado Belle and Edgewater Hotel and Mark Vranesh Studio of Las Vegas will host the 4th Annual Riverwalk Art Festival, Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15. The event will be held outdoors, on the riverwalk between the two casino properties. Free and open to the public, the art festival begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 5 p.m. each day.

More than 50 artists from Nevada, California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and New Mexico will be featured at the juried art festival. Vranesh says festival visitors can look forward to seeing and purchasing fine art including painting, ceramics, photography, wearable art, glass, sculpture and jewelry as well as unique crafts.

Each year Vranesh, renowned Las Vegas watercolor artist, is commissioned to paint a watercolor for the event. This year, "Colonial Mexico," a colorful rendering of a city street in Mexico, will be featured in prints, posters and on commemorative t-shirts. Posters and t-shirts will be included in room packages for the weekend. In addition, guests will have a chance to win signed, hand-numbered, framed lithographs of the painting each night in a 6 p.m. drawing held at the casino's Grand Staircase. The drawing winner will take home $500 and one framed, hand-numbered and signed lithographs from their choice of the first through fourth Riverwalk Festivals. Drawing tickets may be earned by joining the One Club and when gaming.

During the festival, art show browsers will be entertained by Tucson-based Léo Gosselin, a pioneer and master of the unique Chapman Stick, a stringed instrument and member of the guitar and bass family. Gosselin's musical style ranges from relaxed melodies to laid back jazz. Gosselin has released five albums, four of which are available as CDs.

The 4th Annual Riverwalk Art Festival will feature a number of returning artists from the previous year, and many exceptional artists are looking forward to their first opportunity to exhibit and sell their work.

The national Dodge Xtreme Bulls Tour presented by B&W Trailer Hitches will make its first-ever stop in Laughlin on April 14 and 15 at the Laughlin Event Center for the Laughlin Xtreme Bulls. Forty of the world's top bull riders will converge on the Laughlin to take their shot at a $60,000 purse.

Guests in Laughlin April 13-15 can catch Lena Prima and her "That's My Dad!" tribute show celebrating her father, Louis Prima, and his music. Tickets are included in three of the Colorado Belle's four Art Festival room packages. Additional tickets can be purchased for $15.

Prima is the daughter of the legendary swing band leader / singer Louis Prima and singer Gia Maione. She grew up singing and dancing on stage with her parents, and touring with them every summer when school was out. In 1991, she made performing a full-time career and began touring with various shows and groups.

On April 14, the Demolition Derby sponsored by Morning Kiwanis Club of Bullhead City will take place at the Avi's Special Event Arena, north of the casino. The first heat starts at dusk. Tickets are $10, $6 for ages 1-16, and free for children under five.

At the Mojave Crossing Event Center from April 13 to 15, the 2nd Avi Team Penning, which is a competition of teams of horsemen maneuvering cattle into pens, will take place.

Engelbert Humperdinck, who celebrated the 40th anniversary of his first smash hit "Release Me" in January, will star at the Aquarius Amphitheater on April 14 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 and $35, call 1-800-435-8469.

In the late 60s and early 70s, Humperdinck set the standard for Las Vegas-style glamour with his extravagant and lavish stage shows. The "King of Romance" was quite the heartthrob and his rich 3 1/2-octave range made him a four-time Grammy nominee. He has made 77 albums and generated sales in excess of 130 million records, including 64 gold and 24 platinum albums. He continues to perform more than 100 dates a year.

The Harrah's Laughlin Rio Vista Outdoor Amphitheater will headline legendary female country artist, Tanya Tucker, on Saturday, April 14. Tickets start at $25, call 702-298-8510.

Tucker's inimitable vocal style first made the airwaves in 1972 with her hit single "Delta Dawn." She has garnered hundreds of honors and awards including Country Music Television's Female Video Artist of the Year, Academy of Country Music's Video of the Year and No. 1 hits on the Billboard charts. Tucker has released more than 30 albums, published a book "100 Ways to Beat the Blues," and appeared on the television reality series "Welcome to Tuckerville."

Harrah's Laughlin will host a Budweiser Select® Prize Drawing following each of its season concert performances. One winner will receive a Budweiser Select prize such as a mountain bike, dual-speaker stereo, electric guitar and trendy cube-style refrigerator valued at approximately $250. Guests receive one drawing ticket with each concert ticket purchased.
